The 3 Sacred Mandalas & The River Doab
Etymology of Vārāṇasī (Varuṇā + Asi), why Lanka & Sankat Mochan lie inside Kashi, and the 3 concentric Mandalas of Mukti (Liberation).
Select Concentric Mandala & Mukti Shastra:
— Skanda Purana (Kashi Khanda 30.69, 34.77), Kurma Purana (31.43)
Shastra Meaning: Between the holy Varunā and Asi lies Varanasi. Here at the moment of passing, Lord Shiva imparts the supreme Taraka Mantra.
The Meaning of "Vārāṇasī" & The Assi-Varuna Inland Doab (अंतर्वेद)
Originates in Mailhan (Bhadohi) and flows northeast, meeting Ganga at Varuna Sangam (Adikeshav / Namo Ghat). Forms the northern boundary of sacred Kashi.
Originates in Kandwa Pond (near Kardameshwar) and curves east into Assi Ghat. Forms the southern boundary.
Because the Assi River flows south of Lanka and BHU before reaching the Ganges, Lanka, Sankat Mochan Mandir, and Durga Kund sit 100% inside the sacred interfluvial landmass of Varanasi!
