The Metaphysical Architecture
The Cosmic Mandalas of Kashi
According to the Kashi Khanda of the Skanda Purana, Kashi is not a city built upon the earth; rather, it rests atop the tip of Lord Shiva's trident (trishula), rendering it immortal and exempt from the great deluge (Pralaya). The entire territory operates as a giant, three-dimensional cosmic mandala, divided into three distinct segments (khandas):
- Omkara-khanda (North): Aligned with Lord Brahma's generative force (Srishti).
- Vishveshwara-khanda (Centre): Aligned with Lord Vishnu's sustaining energy (Sthiti).
- Kedara-khanda (South): Aligned with Lord Shiva's transformative power (Samhara).
- Kaal Bhairav Darshan: Worship the Kotwal to secure permission.
- Dhundhiraj Ganesh Darshan: Perform your formal Sankalp (vow).
- Kashi Vishwanath Darshan: Up-close viewing of the central Jyotirlinga.
- Mata Annapurna Darshan: Seek the grace of the Goddess of Nourishment.
- Vishalakshi Devi Darshan: Visit the Shakti Peetha to balance Shiva's light.
