How to Reach Kashi
Varanasi is well-connected by air, rail, and road.
By Air
Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport (VNS) is located at Babatpur, about 26 km from the city center. It connects to major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
By Train
Varanasi Junction (BSB) and Banaras (BSBS) are the major railway stations, acting as central hubs for Northern India. The Vande Bharat Express connects Delhi to Varanasi in just 8 hours.
By Road
Connected by National Highway 19, driving to Varanasi from nearby cities like Lucknow or Prayagraj is smooth. AC Volvo buses are frequently available from state capitals.
Best Time to Visit
Kashi experiences extreme seasons. Plan your yatra accordingly.
Summer (Apr - Jun)
Extremely hot (up to 45°C). Advisable only for indoor darshans early morning or late night.
Winter (Oct - Mar)
Pleasant weather (10°C - 25°C). Ideal for ghat walks, boat rides, and extended exploration.
Monsoon (Jul - Sep)
Heavy rains. Ghats may be flooded and boating is usually restricted. Avoid if possible.
The Pilgrim's Essential Checklist
Pack smart. Kashi is best experienced with minimalistic preparation.
What to Pack
- •Traditional Wear: Dhoti-Kurta or Saree (mandatory for Sparsh Darshan at Kashi Vishwanath).
- •Footwear: Easy-to-remove slip-ons or sandals. You will remove them constantly.
- •Health & Meds: Personal medications, hand sanitizer, and mosquito repellent.
- •Documents: Valid ID (Aadhaar/Passport) is strictly required for temple entries.
What to Leave Behind
- •Electronics: Mobile phones and smartwatches are BANNED inside Kashi Vishwanath.
- •Leather Goods: Belts, wallets, and bags made of leather are strictly prohibited.
- •Heavy Luggage: Walking through the narrow galis (alleys) with heavy trolley bags is a nightmare. Pack light!
