Panchakroshi Yatra
The ultimate 5-day, 80-kilometer spiritual pilgrimage circumambulating the sacred geometric perimeter of Varanasi. Traversing 108 consecrated temples, holy kunds, and ancient forests, this parikrama encompasses the living body of Lord Shiva.
Kardameshwar Mahadev (Kandawa)
The Yatra begins at Manikarnika Ghat at dawn. Pilgrims take Sankalpa with holy Ganga water and proceed southward through Assi, passing through Lanka, and journeying out towards the historic village of Kandawa.
The Kardameshwar temple dates back to the 12th century Gahadavala dynasty and is the oldest surviving intact stone temple in the entire Varanasi region, having escaped medieval demolitions due to its rural periphery.
Day 1 Prescribed Rituals & Vidhi:
- ✓Take ritual Sankalpa at Manikarnika Ghat with Kusha grass and Ganga water.
- ✓Walk southward crossing the sacred boundary of the Assi river.
- ✓Holy bath and Tarpanam in Kardama Kund.
- ✓Evening Aarti of Lord Kardameshwar; night rest at the Kandawa Dharmashala.
Panchakroshi Pilgrim Code (यम-नियम)
Traditionally walked barefoot. Modern devotees may wear simple unadorned cotton/leatherless footwear for stony patches.
Fasting on fruits and milk during the day, taking a single simple Satvik meal prepared without onion or garlic in the evening.
Keep chanting "Har Har Mahadev" or "Om Namah Shivaya". Avoid worldly gossip and business discussions.
After completing Kapildhara on Day 5, you MUST bow before Sakshi Vinayaka, otherwise the spiritual merit remains unrecorded.
